Moving Day (Week....Month???)

We closed on our very first home on the 5th of June. It's been a super busy, and exciting week. We are home owners! Woohoo!!! I like to call it our brief period of "Shock and Awe".

Let me explain. We hadn't initially planned to renovate the house, at least not so soon and all at once. Paint, sure? Laminate flooring, in a year or two.

Well. Try all of the above. In every room. (Okay, not the living room. That is the only room that is okay. That and the garage).  On our final walk-through, there was a distinct kitty smell. You know what I am referring to; the undeniable scent of feline urine, wafting through the hall.  Refreshing, right? Hardly.

Me, pulling up carpet staples #prostatus

So what was simple task of tearing up carpet became fairly quickly uncharted territory when we discovered that a section of subfloor in our "office" was rotted through with kitty pee pee.  Ah, the joys of home ownership, where one project leads to another. Followed by 3 trips to Home Depot in one day.

The short of it: we learned how to rip out and install new subfloor, hydrogen peroxide washes really do clean floorboards, AND covering an entire subfloor with baking soda really does eliminate odor. Still have to put a sealant over it, paint the walls and trim, and install laminate. Then BOOM, we are done!

Thankfully installing laminate has been pretty quick so far and user friendy. After all the prep work it really is a snap! (Pun intended!). Master bedroom transformation pics to follow!

The Office - Before. Dark stuff in the corner is pee-pee rot!

The Office - After : with new subfloor, removed wall paper, and hydrogen peroxide scrubbed floors

The pups have no clue what's going on, but are happy to just be where we are.

Poot and Pokey, eager to get out of their car carrier
